How to reduce a photo to 20 KB or 50 KB

Updated 6 October 2026

Phone cameras save photos of 2–5 MB, but forms often want 20 KB or 50 KB — a hundred times smaller. The trick is to shrink the pixels and the JPG quality together, so the picture still looks clear.

Why a photo can be so much smaller

A phone photo is about 4000 × 3000 pixels. A form photo needs only around 200 × 230 or 350 × 450. Resizing to that size removes most of the data; a little JPG compression on top brings it under 20 or 50 KB with no visible difference on screen.

Get the best result

  • Crop first so the face (or document) fills the picture.
  • Use JPG, not PNG — PNG can’t be squeezed to a KB limit.
  • If the form gives pixels too, enter them; otherwise the tool keeps the shape and finds the right size.
  • If the form has a minimum (like 20–50 KB), set it so tiny files are padded up.

Exam with fixed sizes?

If you are filling an exam form, use that exam’s page or the exam form kit — the pixels and KB are already set for you.

Step by step

  1. Open “Resize image to 20 KB” (or 50 KB / 100 KB).
  2. Choose your photo.
  3. Press Resize and download the JPG.
  4. Check its size in your phone’s file details before uploading.

Questions

Will my photo become blurry?

At form sizes it looks the same on screen. Very detailed scans of documents need a bit more room — try 50 or 100 KB.

Can I reduce many photos at once?

Yes, choose several files; you get a ZIP.
