How to scan your signature with your phone

Updated 6 October 2026

You don’t need a scanner. A phone photo of your signature works perfectly if you take it the right way — and a few seconds of trimming turns grey paper into a clean white background that portals accept.

What you need

  • Plain white paper, without lines.
  • A black ball pen or gel pen (some forms allow blue — check yours).
  • Daylight from a window, or a bright room light behind you.

Taking the photo

Sign in your normal running handwriting, not capital letters. Place the paper flat, hold the phone directly above it so the signature isn’t slanted, and make sure your hand or phone doesn’t cast a shadow. Fill the screen with the signature area without zooming.

Special signatures

UPSC asks you to sign three times, one below the other, in one picture. AP TET and some police recruitments want your photo with the signature below it in one image — paste the photo on the paper, sign below it and photograph both together.

Step by step

  1. Sign in black ink on plain white paper.
  2. Photograph it from directly above in good light.
  3. Open the signature resizer (it trims and whitens the paper).
  4. Check the size the form needs (e.g. 140 × 60 px, 10–20 KB) and press Resize.
  5. Download the JPG and upload it in the form.
